Coastal Bermuda Processing Systems
Learn how The ONIX Corporation’s dehydration systems can help a number of agricultural industries process excess coastal bermuda.
Coastal bermuda is variety of bermuda grass. It is a warm season, deep-rooted, perennial pasture grass used for grazing and hay. It is primarily found in the southern US states. In fact, almost half of the pasture acreage in Mississippi is filled with bermuda grass. Bermuda grasses, including coastal bermuda, are adapted to a variety of soils and provide more grazing pasture in Mississippi than most other species of grazing grasses.
With improvements done to bermuda grasses, those who grow bermuda grass, or more specifically coastal bermuda are usually able to have one cow at a time out in the pasture grazing and still harvest up to three tons of hay per acre of land. Coastal bermuda and all bermuda grasses are some of the easiest grasses to manage, and reacts well to fertilizer as well as any weed-control that may need done.
Coastal bermuda is a hybrid species and does not produce a viable seed. Coastal bermuda has been planted on more than ten million acres throughout the Southeast and is usually the standard of comparison for other bermuda grasses. This variety of bermuda grass has been highly research and has the ability to produce more than 300 cow grazing days per acre per year. In optimal conditions, coastal bermuda may yield up to 5 to 6 tons of hay per acre. Coastal bermuda is also the most widely planted variety in Texas and tolerates a wide range of different climates and conditions.
